A porcelain vase, the ovoid body boldly decorated with numerous stems of peonies blowing in the wind, the flowers painted in underglaze copper red and in blue-grey, the leaves, some partially eaten, painted in underglaze blue, the stems painted in green and copper red, all on a yellow ground.

The range of underglaze colours applied to this vase demonstrates the ever-increasing technical sophistication of Makuzu wares in the years between the Chicago (1893) and the Paris (1900) expositions.
