Location: Japan
Materials: porcelain worked in underglaze blue, purple, yellow and green
Dimensions: diameter 41.2 cm
Accession Number: P 43
Other Notes:
A circular porcelain plaque, painted with stems of flag irises and leaves in underglaze blue, purple, yellow, and green on a pale ground.
The highly naturalistic style of depiction of the flower is most unusual and displays a strong Western influence. This is all the more extraordinary in that the depiction of the flowers is entirely sprayed through stencils, and quite without the use of the brush.
