Location: Egypt or Syria
Materials: stonepaste ware, with lustre-painted decoration over an opacified white glaze
Dimensions: 8.9 x 11cm
Accession Number: POT 126
Other Notes:
The small jug is in exceptionally fine condition and the original brilliance of the reddish lustre decoration has been preserved. The decoration consists of a series of bands framing a Kufic inscription, possibly one word which is continuously repeated, but which has not been deciphered.
There are very few parallels for this vessel, but its form recalls, albeit on a smaller scale, jugs produced in Syria in the 12th century.
