Jar

Location: Syria

Materials: relief-moulded stonepaste ware, with lustre-painted decoration over a transparent glaze

Dimensions: 31.5 x 24cm

Accession Number: POT 1251

Other Notes:

This jar belongs to a series of large lustre-painted vessels, the manufacture of which is attributed to Raqqa in north-eastern Syria. The decoration is often based, as here, on a simple but powerful palmette springing from a scroll, which is set against a dotted background.
