Title: Carriage Cushion Cover (Birds in Stars and Hearts)
Date: circa 1800
Location: Sweden, Scania, Ingelstads district
Materials: interlocked tapestry
Dimensions: 53 x 93 cm
Accession Number: SW 15
Other Notes:
This combination of birds and hearts is fairly unusual, although the motifs themselves are typical of Ingelstads and Herrestads. The eight-pointed star medallion is composed of a diamond overlapping a square; the medallions are elongated to allow room for the large birds. The drawing of half-stars at the sides gives the impression of an endlessly repeating composition. At the ends the half-stars are filled with diamonds surmounted by crosses, like church steeples.
