Title: Parasol Handle
Date: 1936-1950
Location: Spain, Eibar
Materials: iron, gold and silver damascene
Dimensions: length 10 cm
Accession Number: ZUL 46
Other Notes:
The iron handle is similar to the preceding item and appears to come from the same hand. Its construction is identical, although the flattened sides are concave. The decorative motifs are also Islamic, and the central ornamentation on two sides consists of the same lobed cartouche containing the Nasrid motto in ‘red’ gold with intertwining wire and palmettes in ‘green’. The remainder of the ornamentation consists of stylized palmetted in two colours with some almond-shaped silver inclusions and, near the broad end, a Nasrid shield with the motto in a bend. The two opposing sides have similar decoration somewhat differently arranged. The square cap at the end contains a swastika with acute angles within a black circle.
